Pan-Pacific Auditorium A Fantasy, A Musical, A Place Where Dreams Come True Xanadu Xanadu Xanadu play

Jukebox Movie Musical Craze The pop charts, included the title songs from Can't Stop the Music and Fame, released at the tail-end of the 1970s jukebox movie musical craze. The Blues Brothers reached number 18 on the US singles chart with Gimme Some Lovin from the Blues Brothers film soundtrack. The film Breaking Glass, starring Hazel O'Connor, had a big impact on the UK charts, with five singles released from the soundtrack album.
Xanadu Another movie, Xanadu, continued with that disco theme for the soundtrack; with the album including no less than six hit singles. The facade of the Art Deco Pan-Pacific Auditorium was used in the film as a stand in for a soon-to-be renovated nightclub. Film sets and photography, utilised special effects in bright neon colours. The film was an adaption of a 1947 musical film Down To Earth. The dancing muses, appearing alongside Olivia Newton-John, in the opening and finale film sequences, were decked out in the co-ordinated pastel shades of the Eighties. Don Bluth created an animated sequence for the film.
Space Invaders There was an increase in the popularity of coin-operated arcade games and computer console screens for a domestic audience. Space Invaders was a new computer game, from Japan, which was ported to console in 1980. It introduced an immersive sonic background to game play, with the increasing tempo. The aliens movements across the screen and downwards served a similar function to a timer.
